Chery Jaguar Land Rover postpones Freelander 8 pre-sale event due to typhoon

The pre-sale launch event for the Freelander 8, the premiere model from the premium new energy brand created by the collaboration between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, has been rescheduled from August 10 to August 14.

The delay was announced today by Zhou Wen, Global CMO of Freelander, who cited safety concerns for staff and participants due to the passage of Typhoon “Dolphin.”

The Freelander 8’s design language evolves from the Concept 97, featuring a “castle-style” body, iconic triangular windows, and new modern elements such as ISD interlocking headlights and a “yacht-style” side character line.

Dimensions
The vehicle measures 5,118 mm (or 5,185 mm for certain variants) in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,898 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm. Inside, the cabin features a three-row “sunroom” layout for maximum transparency and space, headlined by a 46.3-inch far-end screen – currently the largest of its kind globally.

Intelligence and performance
Developed in collaboration with Huawei, CATL, and Qualcomm, the Freelander 8 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8,397 automotive chip across all trims. This platform delivers a 3-fold increase in CPU and GPU computing power, and a 12-fold leap in NPU performance compared to the previous 8,295 platform.

In terms of smart driving, the SUV comes standard with the Huawei Qiankun Intelligent Driving System (ADS 5) and an 896-line LiDAR.

For off-road capability, the vehicle utilises the i-ATS Intelligent All-Terrain System, complemented by a front mechanical differential lock, a rear electronic limited-slip differential, a virtual central differential structure, and dual-chamber sealed air suspension.

Powertrain
The Freelander 8 utilises an extended-range electric (EREV) powertrain. It features a 1.5T range extender with a maximum power output of 115 kW, paired with a 60.331 kWh ternary lithium battery pack providing a pure electric range of 221 km.

The Freelander brand plans to launch six models over the next five years, with overseas versions of the Freelander 8 currently in development for global markets.
