Luxeed, the electric vehicle brand jointly developed by Huawei and Chery Automobile (HKEX: 9973), is preparing to open reservations for its new RX SUV (sport utility vehicle), following a preview of the model in June.
Luxeed said Friday on its social media accounts that reservations for the Luxeed RX will open in August.
The move marks the brand’s latest attempt to move into a higher price segment amid intensifying competition in the Chinese market.
Luxeed said the timing for firm orders and the official launch will be announced later, while more product information, variants and purchase incentives will also be released gradually.
On pricing, Luxeed emphasized that the RX will focus more on the value it offers users, signaling that the model will not seek to enter the market at a low price but will instead rely on its technology and positioning to support a premium.
The Luxeed RX is the first SUV in Huawei-backed HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) to use an X in its name. Previous models in the alliance have generally used alphanumeric names, including the Luxeed S7, R7 and V9.
Key selling points of the new model include Huawei’s next-generation Giant Whale battery platform, a four-LiDAR array, a fully redundant architecture designed for more advanced assisted driving, and what Luxeed calls the industry’s first electromagnetic thermal-control die-casting technology.
Luxeed also said the safety technology system used in the V9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) will be fully incorporated into the RX.
A four-LiDAR configuration remains rare among mass-produced vehicles. Most premium Chinese electric vehicles currently use between 1 and 3 LiDAR sensors.
Luxeed described the RX’s target customers as „trailblazers among the elite,“ language that points to the premium market above 300,000 yuan ($44,190).
Luxeed began teasing the RX in June, when it released a preview video showing a sporty, coupe-style design.
The vehicle features a prominent roof-mounted LiDAR unit, an illuminated brand emblem at the front, a fastback profile and a full-width rear light bar.
Luxeed’s current lineup consists of the S7 sedan, R7 coupe SUV and V9 MPV, with the V9 having been launched in May.
The addition of the RX will expand the brand’s lineup to 4 models across the sedan, SUV and MPV segments.
A Luxeed executive said earlier this year that the brand plans to strengthen its market foundation in 2026 and aims to achieve annual sales of 1 million vehicles by 2030.
That target would require sales to increase severalfold over the next few years.
